Week 28 – The countdown begins

Throughout pregnancy there have been a lot of countdowns. The countdown to the end of the first trimester, waiting impatiently to find out baby’s sex at 20 weeks and the biggest countdown viability at 24 weeks. But for me I think the best countdown so far is this one where the numbers to meeting baby get smaller and you can start counting in days as opposed to months or weeks.

Today marks 28 weeks and 5 days into my pregnancy meaning in approximately 80 days there will be a new human in the world, and my family will get to welcome their newest member. With that count down on let’s take a look at the start of my 3rd trimester.

Here’s the symptom round up going into my last 80 days:

  • I’m still nauseous and having trouble keeping down certain foods, smoothies are my friend and I really like bagels in the morning to soak up the bile.
  • My iron went really low so I’ve been dizzy, short of breath and having trouble with my energy levels. Hopefully with the prescription for iron pills I started I’ll start to feel better in a few days. From here on out we’re checking my blood every 3 weeks to keep on top of it and make sure that my levels are improving.
  • I’m pretty emotional and my anxiety is kicked into high drive. The closer we get to meeting our newest addition the more stressed out I am getting about missing something or not knowing enough.
  • At this point the little one is about 2 and 1/2 lb and just big enough to headbutt my bladder… all night. Making sleep harder to come by, so I take advantage of naps when I can.

So at this point what’s left on my get ready for baby list? Not a heck of a lot, but let’s take a look!

  • Finish up my best case scenario birth plan. I say best case scenario because the way I see it I’m bringing a person into this world and you can’t can’t plan for people. I have an outline of what I think I want but I’m open to changes if the little one doesn’t want to cooperate.
  • Set up the bassinet and little ones space in our room. We currently live with my parents so our space is limited and I have to use it wisely. Also need to get the fur babies used to not sleeping in it.
  • Double check the installation of the car seat. It’s already in the car but I’d like to take it to a fire station or police station and have their trained technicians check it. I don’t like cars to begin with so safety is a big concern in my mind.
  • Pack hospital bags for myself, my partner and the little one.
  • Find a cute homecoming outfit for the tiny human!

As I take things off my lists it’s just more things to add to my countdowns. The excitements building, the time is getting shorter (although hopefully not too short) and even though I’m scared, the excitement overpowers that. We can’t wait to meet you little one! πŸ’šπŸ’œ
